Bargains from the Street

Bargains from the Street

Are you as practical as me? It's really a quirk of mine that shows up mostly when I'm gifting or shopping. I don't give away useless stuff. If you want to make me happy, you give me useful things like soap, candles or nice pens. But the penchant for practicality is actually also a penchant for recycling. I'm not a squirrel who can't throw anything away. But I don't like to throw away anything that isn't deader than dead. So for years, three Benjamines have still besieged my living room because they bloom and bloom and bloom. I'm not going to toss a tip-top functioning houseplant into the compost after all.

It's the same with clothes and books. I like to browse <link https: www.frankfurt-tipp.de insidefrankfurt s shopping vintage-shoppen-was-ist-das-denn.html _blank>Secondhand stores instead of buying everything new right away, I'm a big fan of recycling, have clothing swap parties, and consign books worth reading to the universe in the <link _blank>bookcase. I especially like with the bookcase the idea that the book is now enriching another soul. Excitingly, my taste is totally mainstream.*laughs* Whether it's video or paperback, my stuff is always out of the closet in no time.

Secondhand, book swaps, clothing swaps, the future demands new creative ideas from us, after all. And for some time now, something else seems to have been added: Shopping on Frankfurt's streets. Right at the neighbour's doorstep. Can't be called a variation of the American "yard sale", where people sell what they want to get rid of directly in front of their own house.

No, in Frankfurt people put more and more, a pair of shoes, old pots or glasses on the sidewalk. Gladly also with a friendly sign provided that the passing passer-by motivated to grab. What really went against the grain for me so far. To simply put the stuff from the attic on the street - I didn't like that so far. Why do people have to fill up the sidewalks with their kids' old crayons or worn-out loafers, I asked myself. It soon looks like a rubbish dump here. Yes, and just when the mood threatened to finally tip with me, the tide turned, because a great plate came into my life.

I discovered the other evening while walking my dog Kelly the treasure par excellence - a porcelain plate from Seltmann Weiden. Connoisseurs know - this is about the Mercedes among the manufacturers. My mood in view of this find was similar to that of the first gold diggers in the Wild West. Since then, like my dog, I'm always on the move with my nose in front - who knows, maybe soon I'll have a whole arsenal of fine cups and plates in my cupboard!

Have you already discovered something on the street? Or do you guys sometimes put something out?
