It's Friday again. It's a climate strike today. The excitement of the week has shown that the climate is already on our doorstep. The Hessische Rundfunk and the venerable Frankfurter Allgemeine were just hitting each other on the ears. What had happened?
Pupils of a high school in Sachsenhausen want to cross the Baltic Sea on a school trip.
Because everyone is suddenly talking about the climate, those involved got a lot of scolding, because such a cruise ship is not considered to be particularly environmentally friendly.
Both media had opposing opinions. But the discussion shows The climate is no longer abstract. It's no longer about burning trees in Brazil, but about our decisions in everyday life.
Climate concerns us all.
Find also the city of Frankfurt. Also find my circle of friends with whom I thought yesterday about what each of us can do for a cleaner and better environment.
We also talked about the importance of exchanging ideas in order to change something with small steps.
I once brought our ideas with me and hope for further suggestions from you. You can also read here today what is still going on in Frankfurt this weekend and in autumn when it comes to climate protection.
Of course they are all activities that live from the fact that we take part in them. The motto is to do it yourself.
Five tips - What can I do myself for a better climate and a cleaner environment?
· Leave the car standing more often, use the bus and bike. Does it have to be a taxi?
· train instead of flying within Germany.
· Short showers saves valuable water.
· Wash hair with soap instead of using conventional shampoo. (My friends with fancy hairstyles swear that the hair will still get clean. Because I like the idea so much, I naturally examined both ladies intensively. The hair was 1a well-groomed)
· Sufficient shopping bags at all possible places, in the laptop, in the car, in the bicycle basket, in the backpack, etc.)
· Do not buy shrink-wrapped fruit in the supermarket. Use a small bag to bag loose fruit.
So, as I said, please tell us what you are doing to protect the environment!
Whoever is wondering what else he or she can do, I have the following ideas for them:
keep talking about the climate
greater environmental awareness: Fridays for Future is gathering today at the Alte Oper.
In order to prevent us from getting used to the Friday demonstrations, the student movement is coming up with something new!
Climastreik is announced. Not only a climate change is to be ago, but a whole system change.
A whole week is to be acted: Discussion rounds, films and lectures on everything that concerns the climate: agriculture, factory farming, traffic, mobility - everything that makes up our lives in Frankfurt.
The student initiative focuses on local approaches that also include urban development and energy supply.
The committed boys do not shy away from hot iron: preserving Frankfurt's green lung does not mean concreting space with new residential quarters.
You notice: Schwupps, we are right in the middle of our everyday lives.
The climate is really local.
When the city forest is running out of air
That we mostly feel comfortable in Frankfurt, the city forest also makes sure of that. How's that? As a "climate machine" it cools down the hot air in summer and produces oxygen.
For the forest of its office to be able to rule, there must only be stupidly enough of it. And - you suspect it, once again the hot summer has extremely added to many trees.
Many had to be felled therefore already, much more than in the years before.
Others are marked by dry damages and must fight with pests like the bark beetle or with fungal diseases.
In order to save the city forest, Rosemarie Heilig, head of the environmental department in Frankfurt, is now calling for a joint donation and planting campaign in the city forest.
The planting campaign is scheduled for Sunday, November 24, from 10 am to 4 pm. "Because of the current drought and in the hope that it will rain heavily in autumn, we have set our planting day for the end of November. The rain increases the chances for the trees to grow well," says the department head.
Planting takes place near Carl von Weinberg Park.
For five euros per tree, about 4000 small oaks, beeches and chestnuts could be planted.
Helpers should arrive with sturdy shoes, weatherproof clothing and their own spades.
If you want to donate, you can find the information directly at the Green Space Office, which I have linked to you below. There you can also register to plant along!
Less waste with the #main cup
Less waste, still to go: that allows the city's own multiple cup that is now available. How should this work?
As a deposit system. How this works you can read in the detailed report here on Frankfurt-Tipp.de
I want to tell you how much: What I like about the cup is that it is compostable, made entirely from renewable raw materials and produced in the region.
Among other things the cup can already be found in the Café in the Günthersburgpark, in the department store Hessen on the Berger Straße, in the small kiosk in the Gutleutviertel and quite often in the city centre as in the popular Margarethe in the Braubachstraße.
Clean city for all >.nbsp;
The hash tag #cleanffm probably caught most attention on the new trash cans?
In any case, this city initiative, which is directed against the littering of Frankfurt, is organizing the clean-up action on this Saturday.
Then is "World Clean up Day".
More than 750 of our residents have already registered and promised to rid parks and green areas of all our waste this Saturday.
Short-term residents are also welcome. Meeting point: Iron footbridge, 11 o'clock. From there the cleaning squad starts in the direction of Hafenpark
There is enough to do. Let's do it! Have you been involved in these environmental actions yet? Have you discovered the new pawn cup yet? Wo?
