Do we love our favourite places to death? Barbecue in Frankfurt

Green, barbecue, let it go well - what could be better in your spare time? Since I live in Frankfurt, I unfortunately have to do without a balcony. As a passionate grill fan, we like to unfold the grill in the city: at the light and air bath in Niederrad or, because closer, at the Lohrberg in Seckbach. The grill meadow there impresses with its unbeatable advantage, namely the amazing view of Frankfurt. Lately, however, the pleasure in this beautiful place has been somewhat dulled by the increasing popularity of the barbecue site. More and more people are crowding into the limited space.

Do we love our favourite places to relax to death? Frankfurt may be small, but it's oh-ho as far as green spaces for leisure are concerned. Apart from the banks of the Main, the Lohrberg is one of the most popular places for many. Not surprisingly, Frankfurt's 185 meter high local mountain in the northeast offers everything our heart desires: a stopover with a fantastic view of the skyline. On the slopes the city's own vines grow and there is a delimited playground. The allotment gardeners garden, everyone can grill and even a small “apple farm“ named „Main-Äppel Haus“ is found here.

The non-profit orchard center houses a small apple shop, offers coffee and cake and of course the wonderful orchard meadows. There are regular educational tours that promise stimulating experiences for children! To round off the idyll, a little brook also splashes down into the valley.

With the shuttle bus instead of your own car to the Lohrberg

And here the hare is slowly in the pepper. Because far too many of us love the Lohrberg so much and on sunny weekends cars clog up the Lohrberg, the city has to act: I find the cute new shuttle bus “Your bus to the mountain“ useful. Line 83 commutes every 30 minutes between Lohrberg and Friedberger Warte, so that not everyone still has to take their own vehicle up the mountain.

However, only a part of the visitors can be reached with this, as barbecue food is difficult to transport by bus. In general, the grillers are crowding the Lohrberg so much that even as a last consequence a barbecue ban threatens! After a barbecue site in Fechenheim has been omitted, space is becoming increasingly scarce. And in the city's opinion, the customs also leave something to be desired, because some fellow men obviously think that they have to roll their own vehicle directly into the park. I can only wonder.

So the meadow in particular and the atmosphere in general is threatening trouble. Just put up the grill somewhere else, because the meadow has become too narrow, the city doesn't like it so much. In the Holzhausenpark, barbecues have already been spotted sporadically, and last week also on the dog meadow opposite the Ostpark - although I don't care about that: When the sausage is gone, it's gone, I tiriliate to the cheerful barbecues like this. ;-)

Soon the crickets will stop?

Soon the nice barbecues in the parks will stop? The Green Space Office promises beautiful views for the Ostpark, because the barbecue area there is being expanded and enlarged. As far as the narrowness is concerned, however, it remains difficult because, as everyone surely knows, Frankfurt is blessed with much except space. In total, there are eleven barbecue sites in the entire urban area. To explain a new place to the grill place is easier said, than done - because it would have to be found first of all.

So the Lohrberg offers unchanged a beautiful view, but perhaps soon no more for grill fans, they should not treat this their local mountain more lovingly.
