Every year the calendar brings us the end of the year and just as mankind divides itself into dog and cat lovers, so it is with the last day of December: some of them drive on what the banger industry gives away, the others mumble mustily something of "in bed at 10 p.m.". My attitude? Neither one nor the other. Rather a third way, which corresponds to the desire to simply spend the day or evening as beautifully as possible. I love traditions and cultivate just the second "between the years" with fervour. Even when I was still working in an office, working was more relaxed and the week is like no other, a kind of "twilight zone". I celebrated the most beautiful New Year's Eve during my time in California: in San Francisco with five friends. When students spontaneously spend the night in a motel without towels and greet the new year with a six-carrier beer near the Golden Gate Bridge. Since then, deep relaxation has returned and with appropriate calmness I have once selected from the rich offer what I next Wednesday would like beautiful in Frankfurt: Have I told you about my penchant for skyscrapers? No, then I have to do it here next year...
*Now our beautiful city offers us the luxury of the highest European skyscraper. Which one is that? The Commerzbank Tower. Only accessible to the public once a year. Is this an opportunity? "Dining & Dancing" with a view of the night fireworks and the lights of the city. (Www.silvester-deluxe.com)
Or rather at home with friends in the Fondue stir and to the fireworks in the city?
At Operplatz the devil is loose at midnight as well as at the banks of the Main, where at least one hour before the party, party-happy people on the section around the Iron Footbridge up to the Obermainbrücke (near Römer to Literaturhaus/Konrad-Adenauer-Straße) already let the party rise.
In this sense a hopefully successful slide into the New Year! I look forward to seeing you again in 2015.
