What's up with craft beer?

What's up with craft beer?

Dog or Cat? Beer or wine? I don't know about you guys, but my priorities are pretty clear: dog and beer ;-). But my taste in beer has changed a lot over the years. Where I come from, from Northern Germany, we prefer a cool and tart beer. But I grew up with - hold on: Export beer. So, now it's out. Go ahead and laugh!

Do you still drink the cheap beer like before? Surely not, right? Canned beer? Hmm, nope. Rather, I've come to love the joys of "craft beer" in California, the delights of spicy dark brews on Dutch beaches and Belgian cities. I'm fascinated that the flavors of beer can now be as varied and exciting as those of wine. (Though also just as high-priced.)

Beer liqueur and lemongrass? The expert is amazed

So a new beer culture has been taking hold for some time. And that's a good thing, in my opinion. Admittedly, craft beer only accounts for one (!) percent of sales here. But once you've discovered the new varieties, you won't want to give them up. I still dream of the wheat beer with honey that my favourite brewery, Braustil in the North End, used to offer. I've since discovered the beer liqueur for myself. When the thermometer finally climbs to comfortable temperatures, the former gas station is once again a great place to spend relaxed evenings chatting over delicious craft beer. (Address below).

Craft beer with a proper kick

With the hype around craft beer now sweeping the country, with a <link https: www.frankfurt-tipp.de ffm-aktuell s ugc das-craft-beer-festival-geht-in-die-naechste-runde.html _blank>Craft Beer Festival taking place again at the Westend campus this month, the question does arise: what is it about this brew? Because translated from English it means nothing more than "craft beer" - pffff, but you can't give that to the German producers. The monk in the Bavarian abbey just laughs out loud and thinks of his centuries-old art of brewing from 1516. And in Frankfurt, too, people are yawning wearily. But there's also no denying that craft beer is shaking up the business.

The new hop beverage probably fits best into the "Kraftbier" category. It certainly packs a punch. Aged for nine months in a wooden barrel, it accumulates an alcohol content of up to ten percent. Lemon grass, orange peel or oyster water instead of hops, barley, malt and water - that's debatable.

If you've got a taste for it now, you can either head off to the Craft Beer Festival or visit one of the tastings that are now offered all over Frankfurt.

What do you think of the beers? And where do you prefer to drink them?
