Where to go with the visit? The ultimate tour through Alt-Sachsenhausen

This weekend I'm getting a visitor. My art-interested friend Britta has announced herself. I'm looking forward to the reunion, but at the same time for me the shock in the limbs: the city she already knows quite well. What can I show her new, what also meets her interests, is a bit cool and where but coffee and cake also not far away.

Little hell, may think some at Alt-Sachsenhausen and has not so wrong. Still resembles the quarter between around three alleys: Klapper-, big and small knights- especially on weekends rather Ballermann with its bachelor parties and bawling party people. And even the good Goethe had rather disparaging things to say about Sachsenhausen in his "Goetz von Berlichingen": "Against Frankfurt lies a thing over, Sachsenhausen." Its inhabitants have always been considered "unruly, quick-witted, irritable".

But now comes the big but: a diamond is not immediately radiant from the outside. And as more and more fancy bars, cool hotels, and ad agencies set up shop there, another supply finds its way in. And then we haven't even talked about the architecture!!! So, a visit there is something for at least three exclamation marks:

- Medieval castle atmosphere next to top modern residential building, which was awarded the Martin Elsässer plaque in 2013 for its successful integration into the old half-timbering. A visual treat.

- The Steinerne Haus: oldest solidly built house in Sachsenhausen circa 1450(!!!!)

- Off the beaten track, Little Hell is a medieval place that friends recommend among themselves by word of mouth. The Hasenuss schnapps is particularly popular. Klappergasse 3

- Frau Rauscher, cider and/or handkäs with her own songs and very special anecdote; best to go and see for yourself. What fermenting young cider can do. :-) Right next to the pub, the fountain is dedicated to said lady.

- Shopping: cool shoes from BONKERS

- Lorsbacher Tal: the finest cuisine for regional home cooking. The sight of the fried potatoes makes your mouth water. The history of the restaurant goes back to 1803, old cider nobility that is!

But above all, the quadrangle around the three alleys is full of old wells. There are no less than ten of them in a confined space. Walking around, I thought, so much half-timbering with turrets and balconies is just too good to be true. The homes of knightly families from the Middle and Late Middle Ages can still be experienced at every turn. My favourite attraction is the residential tower in Paradiesgässchen. In front of it, on the Paradiesplatz, the Paradiesbrunnen from 1786 with the figures of Adam and Eve. Afterwards - off to hell!
