Were the cars just in focus, October offers really sensational cultural events. The book fair and the Van Gogh exhibition really make Frankfurt the cultural capital of Germany, if I may say so with all due modesty.
What do I do in Frankfurt in October?
A lot of Scandinavian moments, better said Norwegian moments, bring us the book fair right at the middle of the month.
As someone who studied literature as a child with a flashlight under his blanket and devoured his favourite books like "Hanni und Nanni", I find the Book Fair naturally wonderful.
For all of you who write, blog or podcast yourself, the Book Fair is of course an indispensable place: From bloggers to podcasters to self ...

It's Friday again. It's a climate strike today. The excitement of the week has shown that the climate is already on our doorstep. The Hessische Rundfunk and the venerable Frankfurter Allgemeine were just hitting each other on the ears. What had happened?
Pupils of a high school in Sachsenhausen want to cross the Baltic Sea on a school trip.
Because everyone is suddenly talking about the climate, those involved got a lot of scolding, because such a cruise ship is not considered to be particularly environmentally friendly.
Both media had opposing opinions. But the discussion shows The climate is no longer abstract. It's no longer about burning trees in Brazil, but about our decisions ...

Small and short - not even a real street and equipped with a pretty practical name, that's the "Alte Gasse". It's a fast one, too. In the city centre it connects the roundabout at Klaus-Mann-Platz with the busy Bleichstraße. Who pays attention to this small section, which finally flows into Peterstraße at the Wallanlagen at the level of the Escheinheimer Anlage? Who knows her?
She wasn't always that little noticed. In the past, for example, the cattle market was moved from the Rossmarkt to the Alte Gasse in 1822.
The small, fine street between Bleichstraße and Schäfergasse
But back to the question which street is the most exciting here in Germany? Clear, Brückenstraße, Berge ...

August is a firework of festivals and street parties in Frankfurt. So he lets it crash at the end of the summer. And why shouldn't I? We can still live inside soon enough. Even though I am certainly not a friend of the heat, I enjoy summer evenings very much.
Such a party with wine delight and singing makes me indulge in the Dolce Vita feeling. A neighborhood around the corner has been successfully inviting us to a small street party for years. Homemade cakes and a small flea market make sure that people who normally only greet each other while parking or fleetingly in the house entrance meet in a relaxed atmosphere.
On the banks of the Main Frankfurt celebrates itself ...

The northern bank of the Main is now closed to traffic. So I got on my bike and pedaled through the city to test how bike-friendly Frankfurt is now. Because the city announced Dolles after Frankfurt 2018 didn't do very well in the test of the ADFC (Allgemeiner Deutscher Fahrradclub).
How do you move through the city? Are you one of those with a cargo bike? Do you put your helmet on your head in the morning and eagerly pedal into the office? Or do you use the bike like me mainly for things to do, or just to let you drift a bit through the streets?
Short and good: I like cycling for my life, but have mostly avoided it in Frankfurt so far.
What makes me prefer the car? Not ...

Recently I talked to a colleague. To his apology I have to say right away that he has only been living in Frankfurt for a really short time. And he's also moved from Berlin ;-)
In any case he's new in Frankfurt and so he's enraptured to say that it's nicer than expected here on the Main.
(Yes, what was he thinking, I thought to myself.)
So yes, that it is more beautiful than expected. But just now in summer he would miss the “holiday feeling“ in the city. Me: Sigh.
Berlin would have the unbeatable Wannsee, he complained. Etc. pp. You can guess the rest. If I now times the Heimweh-Faktor subtract and him the Umgewöhnungs-Aspekt zugutehalte, then I felt purely objectivel ...

Why wander far away when Frankfurt is still full of adventurous places to be discovered? Why crowd around the swimming pool with others, when there are many, partly quite unknown shady places with rippling water around Frankfurt? Do you want to get away from it all? Just get out of town or relax for a few hours? This is no problem in (and around) Frankfurt. And the good thing about it? It costs nothing!
So today I would like to share one of my favourite tips for discovering, relaxing and recovering with you:
The exciting excursion tip for hiking, biking, jogging, exploring, refreshing
Recently I discovered a place that should not be missing from the list. Those who like hiki ...

There they roll now. The first electric scooters are on their way in Frankfurt.
Shortly decided to get on an electric scooter and jet through the city - this is now also possible in Frankfurt. In the Ostend, on the Zeil or in the Gallus I have already met some tentatively rolling fellow men. You probably noticed some of them?
I have to admit. The thought has charm. The first rental scooters have already been set up at several locations in the city centre.
Fast, easy and everywhere to find
As the E-Scooter is now officially introduced, I wanted to know what the devices look like, where they can be found and what I might have to pay attention to. When I asked around my friends a ...

Whether women are sorting out fashion sins to make second-hand money, or you need a serious tie - the second-hand business is booming. No wonder. And so it is not surprising that the industry has long outgrown its infancy and has discarded its dusty image.
In the meantime, besides the well-known junk shops, there are chic shops with shelves full of designer goods. And so Second-Hand has been able to win more and more customers in the past years. Why have I always bought second-hand?
A sustainable lifestyle is possible
An incentive is of course the good price-performance ratio. Where can you get a well-preserved No Name jeans for five to seven euros? But of course I always liked to ...

After the European elections it seems clear: the future is green. Questions like „How does my burger change the climate“ or „Who makes my clothes“ are becoming more and more important.
The city of Frankfurt thinks so too and will be hosting the event on the 16th of January. June the Sustainable Lifestyle Festival. The idea behind it? The environment can already be learned in childhood and adolescence! (Between us: A little tutoring doesn't hurt me either. In the sense of, new information and new ideas.)
To the new ideas belongs for me also the current trend to the veganen life-style.
First once: What is vegan? Those who eat purely vegetable, i.e. vegan food ...

„How wonderful nature shines to me“, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe enthused in his poem about May. Even if it rains currently, a walk through the city forest is always pure pleasure.
Goethe did not exaggerate when he described the radiant green. The trees outside bloom in full sap, the winter is definitely over, movement is called for.
Why? When walking, the brain gets up to speed - numerous empirical studies have long since proven this. Companies like Facebook or Amazon hold their meetings while walking, because the movement encourages creative thinking.
Didn't you ever get up from your desk, walk to the coffee machine and booze, suddenly the saving idea came? Exercise pr ...

Have you ever heard of a “naked nun“? Not what you're thinking now. No. This is my favorite craft beer. Close behind: Chouffle, Leffe Brune and Trappistenbräu “Rochefort No.8“. All Belgian, all tasty.
But you'll notice: What's the best thing about the colorful, new brewing variety, automatically brings this stupid agony of choice with it.
The bigger the beer menu, the harder the decision at the bar. And that's exactly why Craft Beer Festivals and Tastings are such a fine thing. Here you can try many beers one after the other and discover new things. What fits the upcoming barbecue season super, I think.
There we have the beer
One thing is clear: It is a fea ...

Our idea from Frankfurt is that there is a constant coming and going here. People from all over the world move in and out for a relatively short time. Which, on the one hand, is true. I experience this very vividly in my English courses at the VHS: Japanese who are transferred to another European country or move back home after six years' stay. Or South Americans who spent a few years in Egypt and have now been transferred to Germany and know that another country is waiting for them in three years' time. Or Hamburg-born people, who are homesick and are drawn back to the Hanseatic city, after a two-year job episode at the airport, for example.
Yes, it's true, there's a constant comi ...

What is the great thing about Frankfurt? Each of you probably has a different answer to that. I like Frankfurt so much. But above all, his situation. The Rhine-Main area, to be more precise. Who lives here, experiences the luxury of an almost infinite leisure offer. There's so much to discover. Constantly and always. That's why I take you on a journey of discovery so shortly before Easter - hiking, cycling, finding something new. There are no limits to your imagination.
March presented itself like an April, don't you think? Rain was followed by sunshine, spring-like temperatures lured us outside. But of course I don't want to pedal the same routes by bike every time. How boring. Th ...

All around the Ostbahnhof in Frankfurt, Germany, the garbage just flies around. Bags here, Krams there. Do we have to? Let's get this straight. I'm not a cleaning freak. On the contrary. But is a full-waste city worth living in?
Round 7500 garbage cans exist in the city. That's an impressive number, you'd think.
My experience can be divided into three parts: 1. hooray, a garbage can, 2. hooray, a garbage can, but unfortunately it's totally stuffed and not emptied or - the Super Gau - 3. Oh shock, no garbage can. From my point of view as a dog owner, points 2 and 3 are really ugly.
The thought of avoiding garbage may be honorable. But if I don't find that purposeful in my case. One ...

Do you like to spend an entertaining evening? Do you like to crack hard nuts? Then today I have something quite fabulous: A pub quiz - something I play regularly in my language courses with my students.
Early of the month now the German Quizverein Ratespiele in the whole republic, of course also here with us in Frankfurt. It will be played on 4 March at the Irish Pub in Bornheim. You can register on the website of the association.
A special cup will be awarded to the topic “Art and Culture“ in addition to a city prize. In the competition, 100 questions must be answered within 60 minutes in a total of ten rounds.
If that seems familiar to anyone, then y ...

If you look at the thermometer these days, you know that spring is just around the corner. Sun full awaits us the days. Already heard something about the Via Regia? Visitors to the Lohrberg are probably most familiar with the old trade route that used to connect Frankfurt with Leipzig. Sounds good? I've been on a pilgrimage all these days and have discovered exciting things for cyclists, hikers, dog owners and families - a route for everyone, so to speak.
Worship is called for!

All Weather! I usually like winter a lot. Basically. I don't have anything against cold - that gets the circulation going - and also nothing against darkness and wetness. Purely theoretically.
Unfortunately my idea of winter never occurs in our latitudes. Blue skies, waving a little over the piste and then off to Aprés Ski. Not that I ski in the first place. But this cliché drives his dread in my head…every winter again ;-)
The 2019 season got off to a good start. The first resolutions were made, everything better, everything more relaxed - you know, the usual. And then calendar week five came into my life: On Monday morning, I locked myself out of my cell phone. Z ...

Help, my wardrobe bursts. Where do I put everything I really need to get out? For example, because it is no longer portable - okay, the simplest solution for that is the garbage. But what about things that are still wearable, but meanwhile unloved?
There may be people - do you belong to them? - who regularly sort out their cabinets in a disciplined manner and even create Excel lists for them. Don't ask! I spotted it on blogs. I'm definitely not one of them. But sooner or later, the 30-year-old jacket must finally get out. The wrong purchase from the last row may also go.
The whole subject of throwing away is a huge one. We find order guidebooks in the net at all corners and ends. B ...

Who knows this fruit? Who saw her? Has anyone tried them yet? When it comes to Frankfurt delicacies, the medlar is at the top of my list.
The reactions of friends, colleagues and acquaintances to the question whether they had tried “Mispelchen“ and their delight, when I explained it to them, showed me that I had neglected the topic here in the blog until now ;-)
So today it's called: Let's get to the Mispel! I will reveal the most important secrets around the medlar and hope for your active support in the comments to share our wealth of experience!
First things first: What is a medlar?
This is the name for a drink with Calvados (apple schnapps!) and a medlar in alcohol ...
