Doesn't this bench look like the one Forrest Gump sat on? And doesn't this old masonry remind you a little of "Robin Hood"? What would it be like to stage places in Frankfurt in such a way that they are reminiscent of moments from great Hollywood films? Maria Jerchel and Jens Peter Kurz came up with the idea of staging a somewhat different city portrait of the Main metropolis. The two of them researched intensively for films from all genres and eras that could be staged somewhere in Frankfurt. This was followed by a no less intensive search for suitable locations - whether well-known sights or everyday places. And then there was a lot of photographing, where in many cases the right weather had to be adjusted to get exactly the picture that the two had in mind.

The pictures were then edited on the computer and finished was "Frankfurt - Like in the movies" - A starting portrait in 99 movies. If you leaf through the book, some references are obvious. King Kong on the Messeturm, for example, or "Jurassic Park" at the Senckenberg Naturmuseum. But there are also numerous pictures where the reference to the film has been wonderfully thought around the corner and which actually allow you to see the city with completely different eyes. Especially for film lovers, it is really quite wonderful how Maria Jerchel and Jens Peter Kurz have transformed well-known city views into quite great cinema with imagination, a good eye and attention to detail.

When looking at the book for the first time, the left side should actually always be covered completely and only the picture should be looked at. This is not only a way to test one's movie knowledge. It is just as much fun to guess which places in Frankfurt have turned into, say, the futuristic world of "Blade Runner", the "Yellow Brick Road" sung about by Elton John from the "Wizard of Oz" or the Great Hall of Hogwarts Magic School from "Harry Potter".

A book made with love and passion, after reading it you really do walk around town with a completely different outlook. A wonderful tribute to cinema and to our beautiful city. In the end, all that really remains is the hope that the "Transformers" or the Marshmallow Man from "Ghostbusters" don't really stomp through the urban canyons of Frankfurt one day - and, that maybe there will be more such original city portraits to see someday!
