There are places in Frankfurt that rightly deserve the name "Jewel". The restaurant "Blaues Wasser" undoubtedly belongs to such locations, which one would not really want to believe from the outside. Located directly in the east harbour, there is a rather grey industrial atmosphere, which is underlined by trucks boarding over the worn asphalt. But as soon as you have passed the entrance area and step onto the outside terrace, the noise of the big city is immediately forgotten and you are captivated by a Mediterranean flair that creates a relaxed holiday atmosphere.
The three managing directors Goran Petreski, Matthias Martinsohn and Rakesh Bhatnagar implemented a convincing but also risky restaurant concept on the former premises of a nudist club about two years ago. Because the operation of such an open-air location cannot be maintained throughout the year. And since the restaurant can currently only be operated during the summer season and the opening hours here are also strongly dependent on the weather, the prices must of course be somewhat higher to cover all costs. You have to be prepared for that as a guest. However, and this is a high concern of the operators, the money that is spent here should also be of an appropriate quality, which of course should not only be recognizable in the ambience, but also in the food and drinks.
And exactly that seems to be successful. After only two successful seasons, the "Blue Water" is already one of the most popular outdoor locations in Frankfurt. The restaurant in the area of the upper terrace is well booked - a reservation is absolutely advisable here before a visit. In addition to the "catch of the day", the menu offers various appetizers such as hummus with mixed olives, salmon tartare ceviche style or Parma ham with marinated melon. For meat lovers there is best Black Angus Steak from Australia, grilled on the charcoal grill, or French corn poularden breast. And vegetarian dishes such as the veggie variations are also on the menu.
A good selection of drinks is not only available at the indoor bar, but also at the red convertible bar, which is a real eye-catcher after dark. The River Bar also offers cocktails, long drinks and wines to suit the perfect sundowner. In the beautiful area directly on the banks of the Main there is no place to eat (apart from Flammkuchen, which is offered here from Wednesday to Sunday), but there is hardly a better place for a relaxed after-work drink or for a nice end to the day with friends.
Conversion measures are planned to open the "Blue Water" independently of the weather. However, it is not yet clear when they can be implemented. Until then, visitors must take every opportunity during the summer season to visit this extraordinary location. A little tip: The opening hours do not only depend on the weather, but also on possible events. So be sure to check out Facebook or Google before your visit, wherever you can find the latest times. There is also an alternative app available to keep you up to date. You can find more about this on the Homepage vom Blaue Wasser!
