When it gets colder outside and darker earlier, when the days are more dominated by rainy grey, then people increasingly look for cosiness. In combination with culinary delights this is the perfect medicine against winter blues. In the Kempinski Hotel Frankfurt there is now a new place where exactly this is offered: Hospitality and enjoyment on a very high level. We are talking about the pop-up restaurant NIU, the Asian Steakhouse, which already two years ago made the cloudy season tasty for many enthusiastic guests. Until the end of April, chef Robin Eisermann and restaurant manager Christian Rothe will ensure that their guests are pampered with delicacies from the pan-Asian cuisine.
The symbiosis of flavours and creativity is the focus of the new menu. Although it focuses on high-quality meat dishes, it also offers fish and vegetarian dishes. The guest has the possibility to choose a 4-course menu with fish or meat, or to order à la carte. During our visit we tasted the pleasantly hot Tom Kha Kung soup as a starter. It's not only the coldest winter temperatures that make it warm from the inside. The mix of shrimp, crunchy wok vegetables, soy seedlings and galant also tastes incredibly good.
Next we were served poultry Tsukune, a kind of poultry meatball with a very tasty Tare sauce. The whole thing was decorated with fermented radishes, a baby leaf roll and cucumbers. Our taste buds cheered
For the main course we were allowed to try salmon and tuna tataki, as well as two different steaks. The side dishes were Hokkaido coconut puree, fried Asian egg noodles with soy sauce, rice and wild broccoli & beans. For seasoning, not only various salts, but also delicious sauces were placed on the table. We can especially recommend the black smoked salt, the sauce from fermented soy germs and the mango Chimichurri.
True to the motto "One still goes…", a Matcha Lava Cake with Thai basil ice cream rounded off our menu. After the various taste explosions that we were allowed to taste here, it was also clear to us why the NIU is so popular: "Many of our guests asked us when the NIU would finally open again," says hotel manager Karina Ansos. "The restaurant we launched over a year ago has won many fans - but as it is in the nature of a pop-up restaurant, it is only open for a limited time of the year."
The restaurant can score with two central features: Guests can choose from the "Steakbar": US Entrecirc;te, US Flat Iron or Flank Steak, tuna steak in sashimi-quality or also baked Portobello steak with soy vegetable filling. If, despite the diversity of the offer, two people can agree on one dish, they can order a 750 gram dry aged veal tomahawk steak, a cut from the front back of the beef, which consists of the complete rib bone and the attached meat.
The second special feature is the restaurant's so-called Signature Move: Fresh Meat Cuts are served at the NIU I Asian Steakhouse under the motto "From the pasture to the table". Depending on the market offer, restaurant manager Christian Rothe presents guests with fresh - raw - pieces of beef or veal, for example. The guests choose which "cut" they would like to have prepared and whether they prefer a preparation in the wok or on the lava stone grill. Coriander-Hollandaise, fried mushrooms, wild broccoli and sweet potatoes are served with each cut.
As in the previous season, guests can choose which knife they want to use to cut their meat at the Signature Move. There are models from four highly regarded brands to choose from: a stylishly simple stainless steel knife from Porsche Design in Germany, a steak knife from the traditional Italian forge Berkel with the classic red handle, a Laguiole knife from France with the typical bee on the back of the knife and finally a Kai Wasabi knife from Japan.
No question: All this makes a visit to the NIU | Asian Steakhouse an experience in every respect. But even when the season for the Pop-Up Restaurant is over, it's worth visiting the Kempinski Hotel for all gourmets. Because in summer the excellent Lebanese restaurant LEVANTE will open its doors again for you directly at the lake of the hotel.
