Between 1950 and 1980 the playground was a creative laboratory. Innovative, crazy and exciting projects have emerged in the cities of the industrial nations: Landscape architects, artists, activists and citizens wanted to provide children with the best playground and at the same time rethink community and city. Based on the pioneers of new playground concepts in the first half of the 20th century, The Playground Project brings the wealth of this period to life - through pictures, models, plans, books and numerous films, but also through game cul-tures for crawling, sliding and hiding. Children, parents, planners, teachers, architects and students are all welcome to discover yesterday's playground and think of tomorrow's playground. The Playground Project was curated by Gabriela Burkhalter for the Kunsthalle Zürich and updated and supplemented for the Deutsches Architekturmuseum.
