A real exhibition highlight that was a guest in Frankfurt in 2011 and wowed visitors there is back in Germany! The original and true-to-scale replica of Tutankhamun's burial chambers makes it possible to experience the moment of discovery up close. So far, more than 6.5 million people worldwide have visited the exhibition since 2008. After a successful tour in the USA, the exhibition by SC Exhibitions can now be admired at the Reiss-Engelhorn-Museen Mannheim.

One reason for its success is the fact that Tutankhamun's burial treasure is still one of the most important discoveries in archaeology today. Ever since the British archaeologist Howard Carter discovered the tomb in the Valley of the Kings in Egypt 99 years ago - in November 1922 - the fascination exerted by the thousands of grave goods, the golden coffins and shrines, the masks and the king's jewellery has been unbroken. The historical moment and the story of the discovery of the tomb treasure is presented in an educational and entertaining way in the exhibition TUTANCHAMUN: HIS GRAVE AND TREASURES in a monumental overall context with around 1,000 replicas.

Archaeology on 2.000 square meters

TUTANCHAMUN: HIS GRAVE AND TREASURES offers its visitors "virtual archaeology" on an area of more than 2,000 square meters: Here you have the opportunity to visit the tomb up close in its original finding situation. The grave goods have been faithfully reproduced in detail by Egyptian artisans in consultation with the scientific directors of the exhibition - they are unique in the world in their greatest possible completeness. They include replicas of all the famous objects: three of the four shrines, all three coffins, the famous gold mask, the sarcophagus, all the major pieces of furniture, a fully assembled chariot and hundreds of smaller items.

Science-based Edutainment

The first part of the exhibition is a historical introduction to the culture of Ancient Egypt and the time of Tutankhamun, followed by the reconstruction of two burial chambers. In this way, for the first time since the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922, it is possible to rediscover the treasure in its original arrangement in the various chambers of the tomb. In the second part of the exhibition, replicas of the individual objects give visitors the opportunity to engage intensively with this fascinating legacy of ancient Egypt. Here the large, gilded shrines from the coffin chamber of the king form the focal point. Films, extensive texts and graphics as well as an integrated audio guide deepen the viewing of the exhibits and gradually guide visitors into the subject and towards the highlights.

Comedy tours with Bäppi

When the exhibition visited Frankfurt in 2001, the comedy guided tours with Bäppi quickly became a real crowd favorite. More than 100 sold-out tours during the exhibition speak for themselves. For those who missed out or would like to experience it again, there is good news, because in Mannheim there will now be two more weekends in September: Bäppi will once again lead a 90-minute tour through the exhibition in his very own way. Entertaining and informative: an experience for all visitors who want a particularly humorous and above all fact-based tour.
