With Main Matsuri, Frankfurt gets its first Japan festival

This year, Frankfurt's cultural calendar will be even more diverse and international than before: With MAIN MATSURI, the first major Japan festival in the Main metropolis will be celebrated for three days on Walter-von-Cronberg-Platz. From 17 to 19 August, culture, new Japanese cuisine and lifestyle will be brought to life. The patron is Lord Mayor Peter Feldmann. City Councillor Sylvia Weber and Japanese Consul General Setsuko Kawahara will officially open the festival on Friday, August 7, at 2 pm.

Afterwards, a program will be offered through which visitors can get to know the artistic, culinary and cultural diversity of Japan. Numerous artists will travel from Japan especially for the festival. These include the art rock band KAO=S, the shamisen duo Kitamura Sisters, the taiko drummer Ichitaro and a 30-strong dance ensemble. What all the artists have in common is that they combine traditional Japanese culture with modern and Western-inspired elements.

Besides music and dance, however, there will also be many exciting hands-on activities. These include a big cosplay competition, karaoke, various workshops and an open stage for performances by clubs. A special highlight: The dancer Yo Nakamura from Frankfurt's twin city Yokohama invites you to a dance workshop on Sunday, August 19, at 4 pm. Places are still available. Participation costs ten euros, reduced rate five euros. You can still register via the festival's homepage <link http: www.main-matsuri.com _blank>Http://www.main-matsuri.com

At the market inspired by traditional Japanese summer festivals, around 80 exhibitors will also present their products. This includes in particular a large gastronomic offer, which also brings Japanese street food to Frankfurt. Whether at the stands, at the workshops or on stage - there really is a colourful range on offer here, which makes a visit to the festival absolutely worthwhile.

Main Matsuri takes place on Friday, August 17, 2pm to 11pm, Saturday, August 18, 11am to 11pm, and Sunday, August 19, 11am to 6pm. Admission is free.
