THREE NEW WUERTTEMBERGERS IN THE CIRCLE OF THE GERMAN WINE ELITE

THREE NEW WUERTTEMBERGERS IN THE CIRCLE OF THE GERMAN WINE ELITE

22. January 2013 - Winemaking art, creative joy and philosophy match the VDP.Prädikatsweingüter

With the start of the new year, the Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter e.V. (VDP) has admitted three more wineries from Württemberg. For the wineries Beurer (Kernen-Stetten), Heid (Fellbach) and Kistenma- cher-Hengerer (Heilbronn), the admission into the elite circle of German top producers means a confirmation of their striving for quality for years. "We have examined these wineries and their products several times and thoroughly and we were very pleased to find out that not only the art of winemaking is cultivated here at the highest level, but also that the dynamism and creative spirit of these wineries fits very well with the philosophy of the VDP and will certainly enrich our regional association", says the chairman of the VDP Württemberg, Gert Aldinger.

Jochen Beurer from Stetten im Remstal has gained a very special reputation especially with his expressive, often downright salty-mineral Rieslings. The viticultural technician, born in 1973, founded his own wine estate as a "garage vintner" in 1997, together with his father Siegfried and his wife Marion. In the meantime, he has fully committed himself to biodynamics, works with horn manure preparations, cuts his vines only at waning moon, works in the cellar completely without breeding techniques - and thus produces wines that are among the most characterful and distinctive growths in Württemberg.

Just outside Stuttgart, Markus Heid from Fellbach has developed his winery from a hip insider tip to an extremely reliable and highly respected producer in the region. Besides fine-bred Rieslings, his Sauvignon blanc is also considered to be a speciality. With his cuvees full of character, which combine international level with local roots, Heid has also made a good name for himself among sophisticated red wine connoisseurs. He is thus setting new highlights in his family's winegrowing history, which goes back to the 17th century.

Although Hans Hengerer's family tradition in winegrowing goes back to 1418, he is considered an exemplary representative of the new generation of vintners in the growing area with his winery located at the foot of the Heilbronn Stiftsberg. With international experience, but also deeply rooted in his home country, he combines Württemberg winegrowing tradition with contemporary winemaking art. Hans Hengerer's great strength is the Pinot Noir, which is particularly appreciated for its elegance and finesse. But also regional classics such as Clevner or Muskateller enjoy special attention here in a contemporary interpretation.

The VDP, founded in 1910, is today considered a highly respected association of top German wineries at home and abroad with now 201 member wineries in ten regional associations. The Würt- temberg growing region is represented by 18 wineries.
