Winery Maximin Grünhaus from Mertesdorf becomes VDP.member

The VDP.Grape Eagle gets an addition at the Ruwer

The Maximin Grünhaus winery was elected as a member of the VDP at the recent general meeting of the VDP.Mosel-Saar-Ruwer unanimously as 31 VDP.member into the Grosser Ring VDP.Mosel.Saar-Ruwer.

Maximin Grünhaus was first mentioned in a document in 966 and has been in the family since 1882. Dr. Carl von Schubert and his son Maximin von Schubert are the 5th and 6th generations to manage the estate. The basis of the world-wide reputation of the Maximin Grünhäuser wines are the first-class, rounded vineyards in the Ruwer valley with the well-known site names: Abtsberg, Herrenberg and Bruderberg. The triad of slate soil, climate and ideal topography, combined with viticulture in harmony with nature and gentle ageing in the cellar, gives rise to profound, complex and very long-lived wines whose character is highly respected throughout the world.

Only classic grape varieties are cultivated in Grünhaus. The Riesling dominates with 90% of the cultivated area. All facets of this noble white wine grape are produced, from the spicy-dry to the fine-tart to the finest, noble-sweet qualities. For the past ten years, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir have made their way back into the Grünhausen vineyards, where they already had a firm place in the 18th and 19th centuries.

"Maximin Grünhaus has been our preferred candidate for a long time, and we are happy that this winery from the Ruwer, which is as rich in tradition as it is renowned, is part of us again", Egon Müller, chairman of the VDP.Mosel.

The relationship between Maximin Grünhaus and the VDP.Mosel has already borne fruit in the past. Thus, in the auction of the Grosser Ring VDNV (Verband Deutscher Naturweinversteigerer, the former name of the VDP) in Trier in 1923, a Fuder (1,000 l) 1921 Maximin Grünhäuser Herrenberg Trockenbeerenauslese was awarded for 100.The unanimous vote for Maximin Grünhaus is an extremely friendly welcome to the VDP and confirms us in our pursuit of the highest quality. We have longstanding friendships with many members of the Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter (Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates) and always have a very collegial relationship. We are looking forward to a good and successful cooperation in the circle of the VDP for the cause of excellent German wine, nationally as well as internationally!" Dr. Carl von Schubert and Maximin von Schubert are happy about the re-entry of the winery.

The admission of new members to the VDP is carried out according to a strict testing regulation in order to guarantee a continuously high level for top wines and estates. Since the introduction of the VDP.Betriebsprüfung in 1991, 125 new members have been admitted and 86 members have left.
