One of Frankfurt's most unusual "department stores" is located in a rather inconspicuous backyard in the Fahrgasse, just a stone's throw from the Konstablerwache. The idea behind "out-of-the-cellar" is as simple as it is ingenious. Anyone can rent shelf space here for little money, on which for the paid period such things can be offered for sale, which you no longer use and need, but which you do not just want to throw away. Then all you have to do is hope that the right customer comes to the store who was looking for this very special piece. Whether old technical devices, bags, clothes, books, DVDs, jewellery, crockery - here there is actually nothing that does not exist.
Rummaging in the sales rooms is simply fun. Of course, there's a lot of stuff here. It's like that at any flea market. But in between there are also small treasures hiding again and again. Admittedly, this is of course a matter of opinion, because tastes are known to be different. But while some may think how kitschy small porcelain figures are when they are seen, others may open their hearts to discover them and find a happy new owner. While for most people an old telephone socket is just junk, for hobbyists it may be exactly what they were looking for. And that's exactly what makes browsing here so exciting and sometimes also very amusing.
"Get out of the cellar" is a good opportunity to part with things and maybe get a few euros for it. But it is also a good place to look for unusual gifts, indulge in nostalgia or go bargain hunting. A must for all flea market fans! Have a look yourself!
