Between Kronberg and Hofheim in the Taunus, just outside Frankfurt, is one of the most popular leisure facilities in the entire Rhine-Main area: The Opel Zoo. About 1600 animals from 200 genera live here on an area of 27 hectares. Next to Frankfurt Zoo, Opel Zoo is the largest zoological garden in the Rhine-Main area and the only one in which there are still elephants. And to make them feel as comfortable as possible, they were given 11.2 million euros to build an extensive open-air enclosure, which was completed in 2013. Undoubtedly, this facility is one of the biggest attractions of Opel Zoo.
What makes the visit so intensive, especially for children, is that they are allowed to feed many animals with special food. This allows you to come into direct contact with many animals, which of course is a wonderful experience not only for the young visitors but also for adults. For a family visit the Opel Zoo is not only suitable because of the many animals and the beautiful outdoor enclosures. Some adventure playgrounds, barbecue huts and picnic areas also offer great opportunities for an extended excursion. Kiosks, a snack bar, the restaurant Zambezi or the restaurant Lodge (access also possible without visiting the zoo) with a great view of the 10,000 sqm Africa Savannah complete the great offer of the Opel Zoo.
In addition, guided tours are offered regularly and there are numerous special events throughout the year, from action days to music performances. No question about it, it never gets boring here. Admission for adults may seem quite expensive at 14 € per person. But in view of the range on offer here, the price is quite reasonable, especially in comparison to other leisure facilities in the Rhine-Main area. Children from 3 to 14 years pay 7,50 € special group prices and discounts. Dogs are allowed (2 € entrance fee), but must always be kept on a leash.
Whether arctic foxes, elephants, moose, dromedaries, monkeys and crocodiles, whether play, information and pleasure - in the extensive landscape zoo there is really something for everyone to discover. So if you want to make a nice trip again, the Opel Zoo can be warmly recommended.
