After about ten years at the Hauptwache, the Children's Museum has returned to the Historical Museum under new names. In new, larger premises, the Junges Museum Frankfurt invites you to discover and participate. The Museum Quarter, which was created in ten years of planning, conversion and new construction, is now complete and the Historical Museum has become a lively cultural site for the whole family. A large orange M with * will show visitors the way to the rooms of the Junges Museum, which have something familiar but also a lot of new to offer.
The change of name from the Kindermuseum to the Junges Museum was therefore carried out so that not only children, but all young people feel addressed. After all, there are not only great offers for the little ones here, but also for young people. The newly built drugstore from the 19th century and the colonial goods store invite you to a playful journey into the past. There is also a lot to discover in the great-grandparents kitchen, not only for young visitors. On this level of the museum, in addition to an area for children's birthdays, there are also workshops such as a painting studio, a computer laboratory and a radio workshop. Workshops and special events for children and young people take place regularly here, as in the other workshops in the vault on level 0 (printing workshop, paper workshop, research laboratory).
A new area is located on level 2, where space has been created for future special shows that will begin with a review of the 45-year history of the Children's Museum. Whether special or permanent exhibitions and workshops: All offers are designed in such a way that they really appeal to all children and young people. No matter whether you prefer to romp around or discover calmly, whether you prefer to consume or try out, whether you want to let your creativity run free or simply want to discover the museum in a playful way - there is something for everyone here. Of course, the Junge Museum pursues an educational mission, but it does not neglect fun either. And that's exactly why the concept works so well.
Museum director Susanne Gesser and her small, very dedicated team have created a really nice place for young people. There is also plenty for parents to discover here, which makes the visit worthwhile. With the new offers of the Historisches Museum, the Junge Museum enters into a harmonious symbiosis so that a great, instructive and exciting family excursion is guaranteed. But even for visitors without children, it's worth visiting the rooms of the Junges Museum when visiting the Historisches Museum, because many childhood memories awaken here - and that's just beautiful, isn't it?
