Alte Oper invites to public viewing on the Opera Square

Culture under the open sky - that's what the Alte Oper offers on May 12, 2022 at 8 pm! On this Thursday, there will be a concert for everyone, because the guest performance of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Yannick Nézet-Séguin in the Great Hall of the Alte Oper will be broadcast directly for all interested parties as a public viewing on the Opera Square. The concert in the house and the broadcast on the big screen at Opernplatz will begin at 8:00 pm. The program includes Robert Schumann's Piano Concerto in A minor and Richard Strauss' sonorous symphonic poem "Ein Heldenleben". The solo part in Schumann's only piano concerto will be taken by the Italian pianist Beatrice Rana, who made her celebrated debut at the Alte Oper three years ago with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

The public viewing on the Opera Square makes the concert a classical music happening in the shadow of the skyline. A particularly beautiful atmosphere is actually guaranteed there. The transmission is freely accessible and free of charge. Some seating and bar tables will be provided, but beyond that, you can also bring your own seating and set it up in the area around the Lucae fountain (which will be shut down during the concert). The Opera Square will be accessible throughout, but official seating will not be released until 7:00 pm. It is not possible to reserve or take these seats in advance. Food and drinks may be brought along and consumed on site, the Kuffler company will also provide a small gastronomic offer. The transmission will take place in all weathers.

Intendant and Managing Director Dr. Markus Fein would like to give the people of the city a special musical experience with the transmission: "For more than two difficult years, we had to completely cancel, reschedule, postpone so many things - and repeatedly limit the number of guests in the house. So I think it's all the nicer if, on the contrary, we can now open up the circle even further, in order to give even more people than will fit into the Great Hall what we hope will be an unforgettable concert evening. Of course, we know from the two years of the pandemic that a video stream cannot replace a live experience. But what we have also noticed: Encounter, proximity, community make a huge difference in experiencing music. I would be very happy if we succeed in bringing this spirit of shared joy in music to the Opera Square!"
