Fear of contracting the coronavirus is not the only reason many people cancel doctor's visits. Also from blood donations see many off - thereby blood donations are continuously and urgently needed due to the limited durability of blood preparations. This currently poses enormous challenges for the blood donation services, because even in times of the Corona pandemic and the associated restrictions on public and private life, patients are in urgent need of blood donations.
The fear of becoming infected during a blood donation is not justified. Blood donation sessions at the German Red Cross (DRK) are conducted under the control of and in consultation with regulatory authorities under high hygiene and safety standards and are therefore also exempt from exit restrictions. In order to be able to guarantee the necessary distance between all participants in the premises used and to avoid waiting times, blood donation currently takes place exclusively with prior online appointment reservation. Blood donation dates can be found at: https://www.blutspende.de/blutspendetermine/
People with cold symptoms (cough, cold, hoarseness, elevated body temperature) will not be permitted to donate blood. Anyone who has had contact with a suspected coronavirus case or has returned from abroad in the last two weeks must please take a 14-day break until the next blood donation. This is another way to guarantee the health of all donors.
So there is no danger in donating blood. How important it is that even in these difficult times enough blood is donated for the treatment of accident victims, patients with cancer or other serious illnesses cannot be said often enough.

Mouth Up Against Blood Cancer
It is also important not to neglect the fight against blood cancer. Therefore everyone should think once about a registration to a stem cell donation. Every twelve minutes a person in Germany falls ill with blood cancer (leukaemia), including many children and young people. Unfortunately, this is also forgotten far too often during this time. With a very simple registration as a donor*in over a registration set, which can be ordered on-line, one can quite save lives. In the fight against blood cancer, 22 clubs from the first and second Bundesliga - including Eintracht Frankfurt - have now set a joint example. Together with the DKMS, they are calling on the football community to sign up via the joint link www.dkms.de/bundesliga-gegen-blut-krebs to register as a potential stem cell donor:in order to perhaps save a human life.
