Weekly markets are allowed to take place as usual and therefore attract a large clientele. Since it is often difficult in a confined space to maintain the necessary distance. This now has consequences for the Bornheim weekly market: On Wednesday, 8 April, it will be held for the first time on the fairground at the ice rink. In order to be able to maintain the necessary minimum distances, the market area in Berger Straße has only been occupied on half sides since the end of March. One half of the stalls occupied the Wednesday, the opposite side the Saturday. But at the weekend, with the best weather, this was no longer sufficient to maintain the necessary distances between the market customers. Thus, there was an acute need for action to protect the market's customers, passers-by and market vendors.
The weekly market in Bornheim Mitte will therefore be moved from the pedestrian zone to the fairground at the ice rink as early as next Wednesday, April 8. This applies to the market events on Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., as well as on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.. The fairground offers sufficient space to be able to spread out the stalls very generously. The majority of the approximately 25 traders welcome this alternative location in order to counteract the spatial narrowness in Bornheim Mitte and the associated health hazards.
The market organiser, HFM Managementgesellschaft für Hafen und Markt, arranged the necessary preparations to be able to use the fairground at the Eissporthalle as the new market location. What is certain is that the relocation of the site will not be permanent, as customers, business neighbours and traders would like to see the well-frequented weekly market on Berger Straße return as soon as the situation permits.
