On 3rd and 4th September the time has come again: Then the "Second-Hand department store for a good cause" will open its doors for the 16th time. Whether it's attractive business outfits, evening wear, cocktail dresses, men's suits or casual leisure: here you'll find many great bargains! Well preserved and high quality clothing for the lady, the gentleman and the child as well as toys, bags, costume jewellery, shoes, nipples, porcelain and household goods you can buy here - and do something good with it.
For the charity bazaar hundreds of volunteers have accepted donations since April at seven collection dates, sorted them and packed them in more than 2000 moving boxes. In order to honour the exemplary civic commitment of the volunteers and the motto of the PfennigBazar "Dress up for small money, help on a grand scale" and to set a sign of solidarity with MS sufferers, Frankfurt's Lord Mayor Peter Feldmann and Susie von Verschuer-Bär will be presenting a special exhibition on Tuesday, 3 May 2010. The "PfennigBazar" success story launched 15 years ago is inextricably linked with the Frankfurt freight forwarding company Fermont. Thanks to Managing Director Susie von Verschuer-Bär and her mother Sigrid Bär, the freight forwarder is the logistical and organisational backbone of the PfennigBazar. In 2004, Susie von Verschuer-Bär, who has been active in the DMSG Hessen for years, launched the PfennigBazar together with Gerhild Börsig, Renate von Metzler (Honorary Chairwoman DMSG Hessen), Ingrid Pajunk (deceased in March 2019) and the late Alexandra Princess von Hannover. Today, the "second-hand department store for a good cause" in Frankfurt enjoys genuine cult status.
The proceeds go largely to the DMSG Hessen to finance counselling and therapy services for people with MS, and to a smaller extent to the Hospizverein St. Katharina.
Since Monday before the opening of the PfennigBazar, the Fermont boss with about 15 employees has been on site in the Dominikanerkloster to build up the "Second department store for a good cause". A mammoth task is also performed by the volunteers who load the "PfennigBazar department store" on Monday afternoons as soon as clothes rails, shelves and tables are ready. During the bazaar days, the volunteers act as good spirits: they fill clothes rails and shelves with new goods and provide friendly and competent advice. The PfennigBazar department store comprises almost 25 departments. One team is responsible for each department. The special feature of the PfennigBazar is its extensive "boutique area", where bargain hunters can find high-quality designer pieces, evening and wedding dresses as well as fine men's suits at reasonable prices.
The "16th PfennigBazar" will take place on Tuesday, September 3 and Wednesday, September 4 at the Dominikanerkloster (Kurt-Schumacher-Straße 23) in Frankfurt from 10 a.m. to 6.45 p.m. each. It's worth stopping by - you'll surely find something there, too!
