Eintracht Frankfurt Museum awarded Julius Hirsch Prize

Congratulations: the popular Eintracht Frankfurt Museum is now an award-winning venue in the truest sense of the word. The museum in deutsche Bank Park has been named the first recipient of the Julius Hirsch Award 2021 by the German Football Association (DFB). In doing so, the association acknowledges the museum's sustained and comprehensive work in the field of research, reappraisal and, above all, the contemporary and broad communication of the club's history during the Nazi era, which is highlighted as exemplary in its historical depth and methodological diversity.

Because the Eintracht Frankfurt Museum not only aims to present the club's success story and the beautiful stories associated with it. Rather, since its opening in 2007, the critical examination of club life under National Socialism has been one of the central tasks of this cultural institution. In doing so, the museum focuses on three main areas: Research, mediation and the creation of places of remembrance. "The projects initiated and implemented by the museum since 2007 have not only addressed and reached very different target groups within the club and its supporters and fan scene; their perception extends beyond the club and beyond the borders of the city of Frankfurt," said the DFB jury, explaining the award for the museum.

Matthias Thoma, managing director of the museum, is delighted about the award: "The fact that the DFB considers our concept of remembrance work to be exemplary makes us very happy and motivates us to continue to actively address our own history under National Socialism with events, workshops and searches for clues."

With the Julius Hirsch Award, founded in 2005, the DFB annually honours clubs, initiatives or individuals who publicly stand up for democracy and human dignity as well as oppose anti-Semitism and any form of discrimination. The other prize winners in 2021 are the Gesellschaftsspiele e.V. association and FC Victoria Wittenberg.

The award ceremony will take place on 22 November in Frankfurt's Palmengarten. You can also find more info at:
