Vier Frankfurter Buchhandlungen are awarded the German Bookstore Award 2019
Books are education, are magic, are emotions - reading a book is and always will be a special experience in our digital world. Even though the online trade has just destroyed many smaller bookstores, for many a visit to a bookstore is still an indispensable part of this special experience. Bookstores are often far more than places where you can search, discover and buy books. They are places of encounter, culture and experience. Readings, workshops or exhibitions are often held here to attract visitors away from computers or smartphones and into shops.
This year again, bookstores throughout Germany that offer a particularly varied cultural programme or innovative business models will be honoured with the German Bookstore Award. With 467 bookstores, there were 8% more applications this year, with numerous shops applying for the first time in 2019. The awards will be presented on 02 October in Rostock by the Minister of State for Culture, Monika Grütters, whereby the 118 winners will be divided into three categories. The outstanding bookstores will receive prize money of 7,000 €, particularly outstanding bookstores will receive 15,000 € and the best bookstores will be awarded 25,000 €.
From Hesse come 15 prize winners, four of them from Frankfurt alone. The teams of the YPSILON on Berger Straße, the bookshop LAND IN SICHT in Nordend, the AUTHORS BOOK TRADING MARX & CO in Grüneburgweg and from BERGEN ERLESEN in Bergen-Enkheim. The winner category of these four bookshops will be announced on 02 October.
Frankfurt-Tipp congratulates the four Frankfurt bookstores as well as the award-winning colleagues from Wiesbaden (Buch-Café Nero39), Offenbach (Buchladen am Markt), Kronberg (Kronberger Bücherstube), Seligenstadt (geschichten*reich) and all other award winners from Hessen.
On behalf of all bookworms we say: Thank you for being here!
