'Life as Art!' - Afro-Brazilian Festival at the World Cultures Museum

(ffm) Under the Brazilian phrase "A vida é arte - life as art!", the World Cultures Museum is devoting itself from Thursday, June 7, to Tuesday, June 12 to contemporary urban Brazil: art, spirituality, everyday life, science, politics - everything is intimately connected. The week-long Afro-Brazilian Festival is the highlight of the program accompanying the exhibition "Entre Terra e Mar. Between Earth and Sea. Transatlantic Art."

The most spectacular day will be Saturday, June 9, 7.30 p.m. with the performance "Transmutação da Carne - The Transformation of Flesh" with Ayrson Heráclito (Salvador da Bahia) in the museum's park. Wearing dried meat costumes, the wearers are branded by the artist. This is to recreate the suffering of the enslaved.

On Thursday, June 7, at 7 p.m., Ayrson Heráclito will perform a ritual cleansing with "Sacudimento" and "Buruburu." Afterwards, there will be a chance to meet the artist over cocktails and catch up.

New to the program: on Sunday, June 10 at 4 p.m. Doté Amilton Costa, Candomblé-priest and director of the cult site Vodun Zo, Salvador da Bahia will determine for a donation with the help of the oracle for visitors who wish that which is "their" Orixa. A theme evening starting at 6 p.m. will discuss the image of women and everyday resistances in Brazil with ethnologists Jane de Hohenstein (Salvador da Bahia) and Nádia dos Santos Aguiar (Giessen).

On Friday, June 8, at 6 p.m. Doté Amilton Costa will present The Oracle in Candomblé. On Tuesday, June 12 at 6 p.m., Doté Amilton Costa, who is also the maker of the deity costumes on display, Ayrson Heráclito and curator Jane de Hohenstein will give special insights into the current exhibit, "Entre Terra e Mar."

With the festival pass for 15 euros, those interested can attend all events as well as the exhibition. The pass also includes a drink on Thursday and a wish ribbon on Saturday. Single visits are also possible
