Railway passengers in Frankfurt have to be prepared for detours and train cancellations on Friday, 25 October and Saturday, 26 October. Due to a necessary software update in several electronic interlocking systems at the Frankfurt railway junction on Saturday, 26 October, between 2.30 a.m. and 9.30 a.m., all railway lines to and from the main station - including the S-Bahn's main tunnel line - must be closed. The trains are cancelled during this time or end at the edge of the city: coming from the north at Frankfurt West station, coming from the east in Offenbach-Kaiserlei, coming from the west in Frankfurt-Höchst and from the south in Frankfurt Süd. From these stations there will be a rail replacement service with buses to Frankfurt Central Station. Underground trains, trams and buses are not affected by the closure, so that they can be used on Saturday mornings instead of the S-Bahn in Frankfurt's city centre area.
In the period from Friday, 25 October, 19.30 to Saturday, 26 October, 14.30, the railway line from the main station via the stadium to the airport is also completely closed. The software update in the signal boxes is necessary due to the work on various infrastructure projects at the Frankfurt junction: new control and security technology is being installed for the extension of the Homburger Dam in Frankfurt Gallus, in the stadium junction and for the Gateway Gardens S-Bahn connection. The installation of new software and a safety check are necessary for this to go into operation," explains Gerd-Dietrich Bolte, Head of Major Projects at DB Netz AG in the Central Regional Unit. "We are pooling all our efforts to minimise the impact on passengers. In consideration of the Frankfurt Marathon, the closure of Frankfurt Main Station will therefore take place during the night from Friday to Saturday and not during the night to Sunday."
The Deutsche Bahn and the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV) ask all passengers to inform themselves about the current connections before departure and apologise for the unavoidable restrictions. The alternative travel options and rail replacement services are the timetable information such as on www.bahn.de or www.rmv.de available.
Call a bike Voucher
Anyone wishing to use the Call a Bike bicycle service during the period of closure can make use of a special offer from RMV and S-Bahn Rhein-Main. The companies provide travellers with a five-euro voucher. This can simply be redeemed in the Call a Bike app on 25 or 26 October by entering the voucher code "RMVSBAHN".
To connect the new Gateway Gardens S-Bahn station to the existing network, the regional train station at Frankfurt Airport must also be closed from 25 October until 14 December . During this time, however, the suburban trains still travel to the airport. Alternatively, you can stop at the Frankfurt Flughafen Fernbahnhof station. The S-Bahn stations Flughafen Regionalbahnhof and Kelsterbach are not served. A rail replacement service is being set up between the airport and Kelsterbach.
