Musikmesse and Prolight + Sound 2020 will be cancelled!

UPDATE: Musikmesse - as well as all its supporting events (Musikmesse Festival, Musikmesse Plaza) - and Prolight + Sound are now completely cancelled. There will be no such fairs in 2020!

Following the cancellation of the Leipzig Book Fair resulting from the increasing prevalence of Covid-19, Messe Frankfurt now also has to announce a tough decision: The Musikmesse planned for early April, as well as the Prolight + Sound 2020 scheduled in parallel, will have to be postponed. The health of exhibitors, visitors, partners and employees is Messe Frankfurt's top priority. For this reason, the decision has been made to take this difficult step for all concerned. The new date for the Musikmesse will be announced shortly. Visitor tickets will remain valid.

For Prolight + Sound, the make-up date has already been set. The new date for the Global Entertainment Technology Show is 26 - 29 May 2020. Visitor tickets will retain their validity.

Not affected by the postponement are the regional accompanying events. As things stand, for example, the "Musikmesse Plaza" pop-up experience market (3 and 4 April) and the "Musikmesse Festival" (31 March to 4 April 2020) will take place on the planned dates. These events are aimed primarily at a regional audience from the greater Frankfurt area and not, like the trade fairs, at international visitors and exhibitors, some of whom also come from risk areas.

Because these trade show attendees may also have Covid-19, health screening is necessary to prevent further spread of infection. This is an essential part of the infectious risk assessment. Messe Frankfurt is unable to implement the necessary measures. In addition, travel restrictions are increasing, making it difficult for potential visitors and exhibitors alike to attend the fair.

"The current situation is creating challenges for trade fair organisers from all parts of the world. We regret that the 40th anniversary edition of Musikmesse will not be able to open its doors from April 1 to 4. Nevertheless, we look forward to great concert experiences for fans from the region at the Musikmesse Festival throughout Frankfurt. We also continue to invite music enthusiasts to the ‚Musikmesse Plaza', where they can experience and buy instruments, sound recordings and lifestyle products, as well as take part in numerous events," says Detlef Braun, Member of the Board of Management of Messe Frankfurt GmbH.
