It has been clear for quite some time that the corona virus will keep us busy for even longer. Nevertheless, deep inside of us there is hope that soon something like normality will return. But for that we have to give up. In the personal, professional and cultural sphere. That hurts - but if we all stick together, this crisis will pass. That's why - sad as it may be - it is absolutely essential that major events are cancelled until further notice. This also applies to the popular Night of the Museums, which was to have taken place on 25 April in Frankfurt and Offenbach. this has now been cancelled. Due to the current situation caused by the effects of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, plans for this year's Cultural Night have been suspended.
Head of the Department of Culture Ina Hartwig said about this decision: "At this point in time it is not possible to foresee to what extent the spread of the coronavirus can be contained until the end of April. We very much regret the cancellation, but the health of all involved and of our visitors is our top priority. I would like to thank the staff of the participating museums, who have already prepared the programme for the evening, for their commitment."
The rescheduling of the Night of the Museums to a later date this year is conceivable; for the time being, however, the development of the situation remains to be seen.
