Palmengarten and Botanical Garden open on May 11

Palmengarten and Botanical Garden open on May 11

Display houses remain closed for now

Frankfurters will soon get a little bit of normality back. On May 11, the Palmengarten and the Botanical Garden will reopen to the public. In the case of the Palmengarten, however, this opening will only be partial: While the open-air areas of the Palmengarten will then be accessible, the show houses such as the Tropicarium, the Palm House and the Entrance Show House will remain closed until further notice for reasons of infection control. Also the "Palmenexpress" - especially for children one of the highlights of the Palmengarten - will not resume its operation for the time being.

"We know that many of our loyal guests have missed visiting the Palm Garden and the Botanical Garden, especially in the past few weeks," says Frankfurt's head of environment Rosemarie Heilig. "However, we have made the most of the time. Many things have been renewed in the Palmengarten. The Octagon Fountain shines with new paving and the renovation work on the Ring Pipeline has made great progress. Some of the work will be completed before the opening. Therefore, I ask for your understanding that we are waiting until May 11 to reopen. We look forward to showing the Palmengarten and Botanic Garden in all their spring splendour then: The trees are in full bloom and on the beds the gardeners have just brought in the summer flowers."

The reopening of the Palmengarten will coincide with the opening of the new ticket office - along with the introduction of a new cashier system - on Palmengartenstrasse. IMPORTANT: This will remain the only entrance to the Palmengarten for the time being. The turnstiles for self-admission will also remain closed.

"The ticket office is outdoors, here sufficient safety distance can be kept when entering," said the director of the Palmengarten, Katja Heubach. "Some of our visitors may have to accept a detour into the garden. I ask for your understanding for this. But the protection of our guests and our staff is our top priority."

Hygiene notices in German and in English remind visitors in all sanitary facilities and elsewhere in the gardens to comply with the standards for containing the Corona pandemic, Heubach said. Normal admission prices apply at the Palm Garden. Access to the Botanic Garden is free as usual.

There is good news for annual pass holders: existing annual passes that could not be used because of the closure will be extended for the period of the closure, or two months.

Rosemarie Heilig is happy about the reopening, but adds: "However, there will still be restrictions. For example, we unfortunately have to cancel the Rose and Lights Festival this year due to the expected crowds. There will also be no flower shows or other exhibitions in the Palm House galleries until the end of August." It is also unclear, he said, if and how music events will be able to take place in the summer. This also applies to the "Green School" and all other guided tours and lectures. These offerings are also on hold until revoked at the end of August. "We have to wait for the further development of the Corona pandemic and the resulting decisions of the state government. Let's remain hopeful that we can all return to our daily lives soon."
