At the moment, more and more planned events are being cancelled and everywhere there is great uncertainty: How will things continue in Frankfurt in the next few weeks? There is a small ray of hope: According to current information, the third edition of the "Discovery Art Fair" will be held at the Frankfurt exhibition grounds from 29 October to 1 November, the first public fair since the start of the pandemic. The organisers, together with Messe Frankfurt, have been working intensively for weeks to design the popular art fair in such a way that the relaxed and stimulating atmosphere is maintained, while at the same time all hygiene regulations and the safety of visitors and exhibitors are guaranteed.
To ensure that this can happen at all, this year the fair has moved from the Forum of the fair to the much larger Hall 1, the former hall of Art Frankfurt. The additional space allows for a more relaxed stand architecture, larger spacing areas and wide aisles. Additional sculpture spaces enrich the range of exhibits at the fair, where this year around 100 exhibitors will present contemporary art from all categories on more than 7,000 square metres. This means that, despite the entry restrictions in force, the number of participants has even increased compared to the two previous years, which can be seen as an important signal for Frankfurt as an art market location.
The digital trade fair companion: contactless information procurement for visitors
For a visit to the fair that is as contactless as possible, the Discovery Art Fair Frankfurt uses new digital possibilities. As the first German art fair, the innovative services of fynd.art, a start-up from Austria, are used here. With the newly developed web application, visitors to the fair can scan exhibited works and receive information about the work of art and artists on their smartphones without contact. The scanned works of art can be stored in a personal watch list and can be retrieved even after the fair. The web app takes over the function of flyers and catalogues and, with the possibility of easy contactless collection of data and facts, not only optimises the trade fair visit, but also provides further support in the context of a comprehensive hygiene concept to reduce the risk of infection.
Thousands of works of art are looking for new owners
For art lovers there is really a lot to discover here: Because especially the carefully curated mix of galleries, projects and individual artists, which is unique in the fair landscape, provides an exciting insight into current art production. The offer ranges from painting, photographic art and works on paper to sculpture and installation, mixed media works and urban art.
Nowned fair participants such as Frankfurt's Barbara von Stechow Gallery, Düsseldorf's Bengelsträter Gallery, Berlin's Gräfe art.concept Gallery or Galerie Augarde from the Eifel region offer an attractive combination of up-and-coming newcomers and established positions. Young galleries and artist projects offer art discoverers and collectors the chance to find the right work of art for every taste and budget. And the "Artist Section" reveals the unique opportunity to meet the artists personally and exchange ideas about their work.
All art fans who want to enter into a dialogue with artists and gallery owners and are looking for a unique original are invited to book their online ticket in advance, as the maximum number of visitors is limited.
Furthermore, the organizers' appeal to all art lovers is to support artists right now by purchasing a small or even a large work of art and to beautify their homes with their new favorite work.</The exhibitors of the Discovery Art Fair Frankfurt 2020 </p>
