Awarding cancelled: Hessian Film and Cinema Prize will be awarded without event

In the past years it has always been a glittering gala in the Alte Oper: The presentation of the Hessian Film and Cinema Prize. Many stars and starlets came to Frankfurt, faced the thunderstorm of press flashes in front of the Alte Oper and fulfilled countless autograph requests from fans. It had been clear for quite some time that there would be no big gala this year. But so far, nothing stood in the way of a small-scale award ceremony in the Naxoshalle - until the Corona numbers shot up again.

And so the presentation of the 31st Film and Cinema Prize will take place without a presence event with nominees and prize winners. "In view of the development of the Corona case numbers, we have decided to implement the awarding of the prize, which is in any case planned in digital format, without the presence of the prizewinners. Although the number of participants would have been kept to a minimum and the hygiene concept took all the necessary precautions, several dozen people would still have had to travel to Frankfurt. We do not want to put them at this risk and will therefore award the prizes without the event," announced Angela Dorn, Hessian Minister for Science and Art, on Friday.

appreciation in digital form

After the cancellation of the traditional Film Prize Gala in the Alte Oper, a recording with nominees and prize winners was planned in Frankfurt's Naxoshalle to be shown on the Internet and in the social media. At the scheduled time, on 22 October from 7 pm on the website hessischerfilmpreis.de and in the social media, all prize winners will now be honoured in digital form. This is no substitute for a festive gala - but the prizewinners* will nevertheless be delighted with their awards!
