The Hessentag 2017 in Rüsselsheim

Infos, Highlights, Backgrounds

Every year, the Hessentag attracts thousands of enthusiastic visitors to a select Hessian town for events that cater to every demographic and taste. This year, the beautiful town of Rüsselsheim will be the venue for Hessentag 2017 from 09 to 18 June. In addition to plenty of culinary food options, a state exhibition, readings and interesting exhibitions, the entertainment program is first and foremost at the forefront of every Hessentag.

The history of the Hessentag

In 1961, the first Hessentag was held in Alsfeld. It was initiated by the then Hessian Prime Minister Georg-August Zinn with the aim of giving both long-established and immigrant people in the region a sense of belonging and the state its identity. Thus, the customs of the respective towns and especially the presentation of the traditional costumes were in the foreground of the Hessentag. In 1971, there was then the first Hessentagspaar, which since then represents its city before and during the state festival.

In the beginning, the Hessentag was celebrated for only three days. Then in the twelfth year, the festivities were extended to nine days. And since the 30th anniversary it is even ten days. During this period, an average of around one million visitors come to the respective Hessentag city, with Kassel setting the previous record in 2013 with 1.8 million guests.

The Hessentag City 2017

Under the motto "MAIN Rüsselsheim - OUR Hesse", Rüsselsheim am Main is hosting the Hessentag this year. Of course, the city is primarily associated with the car manufacturer Opel, one of the most important employers in the region. This, together with its proximity to Frankfurt and good transport links, has led to other globally active companies also settling here. But Hessen's tenth largest city is not only characterized by industrial culture. The approximately 63,000 inhabitants are offered plenty of culture in the municipal theater or in the Opelvillen.

Numerous clubs and institutions such as the beautiful Waldschwimmbad also ensure that the leisure offer in the city turns out very diverse. For tourists, a visit to the 600-year-old fortress and of course a stroll through the pedestrian zone is worthwhile.

The city is represented by this year's Hessentagspaar Selma Kücükyavuz and Marcel Sedelmayer.

Highlights of Hessentag 2017

Once again, Hessentag 2017 has managed to put together a great festival programme. In addition to the Hessentagsstraße, the Mainvorland with the hr-Treff, the Beach-Area and the Festival des Sports, as well as the late romantic landscape garden with the Wine Village and the Children's Land are particularly attractive venues. The really big crowd, however, is expected in the Hessentag Arena, which is being built at the Adam Opel-Haus company car park and will offer space for up to 32,000 visitors.

Here stars like David Garrett & Band (19.06, 20:00), Peter Maffay (15.06., 20:00), the Scorpions (11.06., 20:00) or the Kings of Leon (12.06., 20:00) will perform. Also the big hr-Open Air (09.06., 17:30) with Silbermond, Andreas Bourani, Jordis and Tonbandgerät as well as the FFH - Just 90s! Festival (10.06., 19:00) will take place here.

A factory hall on the Opel site will be transformed into Music Hall K48. Here there will then be, among other things, a guest performance by the Frankfurt Tigerpalast (10. + 11.06. at 8 pm) and the comedy festival "Germany, your Turks" with Bülent Ceylan, Özcan Cosar and others (13.06., 8 pm).

There are, of course, some real highlights to discover at the Rüsselsheim Theatre. For example, Badesalz will perform their new program "Dö Chefs!" here. (11.06., 20:00) and Til Brönner will do the honours with his band (16.06., 20:00).

A highlight of every Hessentag is the large Land Exhibition. This will take place in Rüsselsheim, also on the Opel grounds. In a total of six halls, the Hessian state government including ministries, the Hessian state parliament with its parliamentary groups as well as numerous Hessian institutions, associations and clubs will present themselves to the public. Last but not least, the state exhibition is also a central venue for the presentation of companies from the fields of industry, trade, crafts, commerce, services and tourism. Here the circle of the Hessentag cities closes again: not only the city of Rüsselsheim am Main is represented as the current host with its own information stand, but also Korbach will present itself and its idea of the Hessentag, as Rüsselsheim did before in Herborn.

The Special show "Nature on the trail"of the Hessian Ministry for the Environment, Climate Protection, Agriculture and Consumer Protection, over 100 sporting events and of course the traditional Hessentag parade are other attractive reasons to pay a visit to Hessentag 2017.

Driving to the Hessentag

A major event such as the Hessentag inevitably brings with it altered traffic routing and road closures in the area of the venues. This is of course primarily for residents not always a joy, but also for visitors sometimes a real challenge. In general, it is therefore advisable to travel by public transport.

If you still want to come to the Hessentag by car, there are large visitor parking spaces available at the entrances to the town: from the west, towards Bischofsheim, from the east towards Raunheim.

In addition, the parking lots and the parking garage of the Opel company at Berggewann are temporarily available for the events in the Hessentag arena.

By means of LED boards and the traffic control center, the streams of visitors are guided to the individual parking lots. Here, traffic disruptions can be reacted to and traffic rerouted.

The parking lots are connected to the city center, the major event venues and Hessentagsstraße by a free bus shuttle line with several stops. Buses run every 15 minutes.

However, the convenient location and connections in the middle of the Rhine-Main area make it easy to get to Hessentag in Rüsselsheim am Main by public transport. The Hessentag station is "Rüsselsheim". The S-Bahn and regional trains will be reinforced.

The city buses will run according to the regular timetable, but the frequency on the existing bus lines in Rüsselsheim will be reinforced with additional trips. Where there is an hourly cycle, the buses will run every half hour, and on line 1 to Flörsheim, the buses will run every 20 minutes.

On all lines, buses will run until 1 a.m. on all event days. Shuttle buses will also run until 1am.

Good transport links, an attractive location and a great programme of culture, information, sport, fun and enjoyment - these are all good reasons not to miss Hessentag 2017.

Frankfurt-Tipp.de wishes all participants good luck and great weather, and all visitors a lot of fun!
