Every generation has at least one movie that is a must-see every Christmas. In the age of DVD and Blu-ray, it's almost mandatory to get these old and modern classics for your home movie library. The James Steward classic "Isn't Life Beautiful", which has become a Christmas institution in the USA in particular, is definitely one of the big crowd-pleasers. In Germany, the wonderful Czech fairy tale film "Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella", which has become a permanent fixture in festive TV programming and has also been digitally remastered and released on DVD and Blu-ray, has a similarly high status.
In recent years, however, smaller films have also become big crowd-pleasers. These include the romance "Alles ist Liebe" filmed in Frankfurt, the completely politically incorrect brachial comedy "Bad Santa" or even "The Grinch" with Jim Carrey.A modern classic in children's programming is also the Christmas story by Charles Dickens as interpreted by Jim Henson's Muppets. Also a must-see is the Chavy Chase comedy "Schöne Bescherung", which at least has an amusing audio commentary as an extra on the DVD. A German classic - even if not necessarily a true Christmas film - is clearly "Die Feuerzangenbowle" with Heinz Rühmann! And romantics just can't get past the wonderful "Tatsächlich.Liebe"! You see, there really is the right Christmas movie for every taste.
