Top-Tipps: Kinos Frankfurt & Rhein-Main

Movie enjoyment for every taste
The days when a cinema could be found on almost every street corner in the city and glamorous film premieres were regularly celebrated in Frankfurt are unfortunately long gone. Most of the inner city cinemas had to give way to sports shops, clubs, restaurants or bookshops. Hardly anyone remembers the Metro im Schwan, the wonderful Royal or the Zeil cinemas. But due to the strengthening of the local arthouse scene, some successfully established festivals like the LICHTER film festival, as well as the opening of a new premium film theatre, the local cinema landscape is currently becoming more interesting and diverse again. Whether it's a current Hollywood blockbuster, independent drama or documentary - in Frankfurt's cinemas, everyone really can find the right film.

Orfeos Erben

Film enjoyment in old 1st class airplane seats - that's only available at Orfeos Erben. In addition, an excellent sound system and a program selection, for which the team of the Orfeos is regularly awarded - that makes perfect film enjoyment for program cinema lovers. If that's not enough, you can indulge your palate in the adjoining restaurant.

Eldorado

One of the cinemas on the Zeil is the Eldorado, located near Konstablerwache, Frankfurt's oldest cinema - and one of the last with a balcony! Particularly attractive arthouse hits are shown here. A cinema with very original charm.

E-Cinemas

The family business is one of the five oldest film theatres in Germany. Over the decades, the greats of national and international cinema have been guests here, to which the autograph wall of the artists' room bears impressive witness. The programme is primarily aimed at young audiences and families. The popular Sneak, the Ladies First Previews or Film Talks always ensure full cinema halls in addition to the regular programme.

Mal Sehn`

Admittedly, especially for longer films, the seats in the small hall of the Mal Sehn` are not exactly the most comfortable. But the cinematic offerings of this multi-award winning cinema can easily make up for this minor shortcoming. The films are really chosen with care and a good eye for the extraordinary. Here you can see arthouse gems and documentaries that have no place in the multiplexes. It's nice that cinemas like this still exist, offering a forum for works beyond the mainstream. The charming Mal Sehn`Café invites to a cozy exchange before or after the movie - or of course without going to the cinema at all.

Harmonie

After the renovation, the Harmonie cinema with its two halls is almost unrecognizable. The foyer has become a real feel-good place. The range of drinks and snacks has also been expanded. The completely renovated cinema on the ground floor is a real eye-catcher with its colourful seats. The programme is varied and is also aimed at a younger arthouse audience. Special screenings, events like the Fantasy Filmfest and films in the original version are also a must for all cineastes!

Cinema

A lot has happened at Frankfurt's arthouse cinema on Roßmarkt. At the Cinema, the foyer has been enlarged and completely redesigned and the cinema programme has also become more extensive and varied. Lovers of sophisticated programme cinema fare will get their money's worth, as will friends of light arthouse entertainment. Regular special events such as previews, premieres and film talks round off the perfect cinema experience.

Astor Film Lounge

Movies at MyZeil: In summer 2019, the Astor Film Lounge will reopen on the top floor of the shopping center a few years after the closure of the cinema in the former Zeil-Galerie. Geich in five halls there is premium cinema enjoyment pure with comfortable leather chairs and service at the place give. The program includes blockbusters as well as more sophisticated art house cinema. Films in the original version are also shown here. The smaller halls, the so-called library cinemas, can then also be booked for private parties and corporate events.
