Imagine: You're not quite young anymore, but you're still into film acting: finally you've been offered a leading role again. Well, the director isn't really known and the movie isn't really first class - but a leading role, you haven't had that for a long time. You drive into town to the production company, you take the elevator to the fifth floor where the casting is supposed to take place. In the last second before the elevator starts, your intimate enemy, your biggest competition, enters the elevator. You don't give her a glance, but you break out in a sweat; it's immediately clear to you who you're competing with for the lead role. And then the elevator gets stuck.
This happens to Bette Davis and Joan Crawford, two famous Hollywood divas with soon-to-be forty-year successful careers. Crammed into three square feet, there is no room for detached friendliness: there is hating, gossiping and laughing. There is dancing and drinking, secrets are exchanged and confessions made. Joan seduces Clark Gable again and Bette shoots a gangster, and not because of the jewels. When the hideous elevator music plays once again the next day, it soon becomes clear: these 24 hours will change the lives of Joan Crawford and Bette Davis forever.
