This evening, the weekend at Mathildenhöhe kicks off with the hr-Bigband, one of the world's best formations of its kind. Numerous awards, two Grammy nominations, two Echo Jazz Prizes and several prizes from the German Record Critics attest to this success of the seventeen outstanding musicians, all of whom also enjoy a high reputation as soloists.
With their program "Echoes of Ellington" they perform works by Duke Ellington in exciting new arrangements under the direction of their principal conductor Jim McNeely, who enjoys the highest recognition as both conductor and arranger.
