Jean Raspail's 1973 work and its 1985 adaptation is a wake-up dystopia about the clash of cultures, the scope of which Schauspiel Frankfurt does not want to leave to right-wing discourse. The Frenchman's apocalyptic novel, in which a million refugees from Asia set out for Europe, captures the double standards of our society, which on the one hand invokes a universalism of migration and on the other struggles to find its own identity. Jean Raspail tells of a collective sense of fear in the Western world, of the unconscious knowledge that one's own prosperity comes at the expense of others, and the suspicion that our ancestral security cannot be maintained without serious conflict. Finally, the question remains whether humanity is not a chimera that we preach, but whose consequence we do not want to bear.
