"Let her murder me, not judge me!" - For 19 years already, Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots, has sat in captivity of her kinswoman, the English Queen Elizabeth I. Still Elizabeth hesitates to sign the death warrant. With Mary's claims to the English throne endangering the crown, Elizabeth is torn between ruthless despotism and sisterly compassion. The last three days of Mary Stuart's life develop into an intriguing duel between the two rivals and their accomplices, with far more than power at stake.

For Jacob Grimm, the "tragic talent is more decided and greater in Schiller than in Goethe." Here Schiller fully exploits the liberties of a dramatist and exposes man's inner conflict. This political thriller full of pride, despair, passion and betrayal is one of Schiller's best works - a timeless and thrillingly exciting classic.
