On the 200th birthday of Jaques Offenbach! Jacques Offenbach is known for melodies that immediately catch your ear and then don't leave your head - and even those who otherwise have little to do with operetta will find it hard to resist the romantically swaying Bacarole or the rousing rhythm of the Cancans from "Orpheus in the Underworld". The Fritz-RémondTheater is celebrating the composer's 200th birthday this season with a very special musical Offenbach evening. The play's author, Roger Defossez, describes it this way: a friend approached him with the request, "I need a real play... not just some potpourri." - for the Japanese actress Kozuki Noboru, who wanted to bring Offenbach's work to her audience in a small cast. This gave rise to the idea of moving the operetta "Parisian Life" - for which the maestro planned 4 sets, 40 performers, 200 costumes and an orchestra - into a "stage garda" with an ensemble of only 5 actors, a pianist and a fair amount of humour, esprit and artistic freedom. Offenbach's grandson said after attending a performance that his grandfather would certainly have been delighted with the play, in which everything he loved about the stage could be found: "Wit, that certain twinkle in the eye, the play within the play and those crazy scenic situations."
