On director Olivier Assayas (as well as the films of his wife Mia Hansen-Løve) the Hafenkino Open Air has a subscription - so we were brightly pleased that his new work Between the Lines is also a distinct comedy. His films have always been smart, sophisticatedly entertaining and psychologically accurate - so it's great that this one is also hilarious! The story? The editor Alain is extremely successful in his job and runs a Parisian publishing house. But the industry is changing and Alain is finding it increasingly difficult to adapt his publishing house to digitalisation. The attractive young employee in charge of digitization seems much more interesting. But that is not his only problem. He is also not satisfied with the manuscript of his long-time client Léonard, who has once again turned an affair into a book and has done a poor job of disguising the references to reality. But Alain's wife Selena (Juliette Binoche), who also works as an actress at the theatre, has a completely different view of things. For she likes Léonard's work, but perhaps only because she herself is involved in the explosive affair with an affair. oh là, là.
