On the first weekend in September, Dreieichenhain will once again become the annual Mecca for numerous culture and medieval enthusiasts. The extraordinary ambience of the historic old town, the sophisticated medieval market "Herrenborn" and the high-quality cultural offerings promise 25 hours of entertainment at a high level.

Under the motto "Samarkand - Secrets of the Orient", the Hayner Burgfest walks this year in the footsteps of Genghis Khan. This year's show conveys the 4000-year-old hunting tradition of the Mongols: Genghis Khan accompanied by his warriors high on horse and camel, supplied by hunting archers, falconers and dog handlers. Authentic costumes and faithful equipment complete the extraordinary performances on the showground.

In the show, castle festival-goers will encounter the white gerfalcon and the steppe eagle hunting. The Siberian eagle owl, the largest owl in the world, impresses with its silent flight. Mounted falconers demonstrate the use of spears and other hunting weapons. Greyhounds of various breeds, including two Russian borzoi, the descendants of the Tsar's hunting dogs, showcase their speed and elegance.

All animals are available for viewing after the shows: Falconry experiences with photo opportunities, camel rides and direct contact with the greyhounds will round off a unique experience.

Hesse's oldest open-air stage is reserved primarily for medieval sounds. With "Rapalje" from the Netherlands, one of the most famous medieval bands has announced itself. But also with "Fabula" and "Mythemia" well-known names enrich the music program. Of course the local heroes of "Maleficius" will not be missing. In addition to the medieval music groups, impressive jugglers, jugglers, actors and fire artists will enliven the stages and the market events from Friday evening.

After the overwhelming success last year, there will be chamber concerts in the keep (round tower) again this year. The band "Strings & Drones" will once again perform Irish-Celtic melodies in a unique atmosphere with "Dextro", the former frontman of the former cult band "Schelmish".

Away from the two stages, the annual merry goings-on unfold at the medieval market "Herrenborn", which was first mentioned 482 years ago. As the oldest documented event in Dreieichenhain, the Herrenborn takes place unchanged at the gates of the castle. About one hundred craftsmen, traders, hawkers and innkeepers populate the area around the former imperial castle "Hayn in der Dreieich" and promise a lively and authentic market events.

In addition, an oriental market in the moat around Erk fountain enriches the events. Craftsmen and taverns from the Orient will spread an oriental atmosphere.

As part of an accompanying scientific program, lectures will also take up this year's motto. The topics range from medieval trade routes to the Orient to Genghis Khan's empire and medieval travelogues. Additionally, due to popular demand, a whisky seminar rounds out the accompanying program.

Little guests will also be offered a wide selection of programs. It ranges from the Kiepenkasper, make-up peacock to farm bowling and donkey riding. In addition, a carousel driven by muscle power will make its rounds on the castle square. Other medieval games and activities are spread across the entire festival area.
