The waiter Leopold is undaunted in his efforts to win the favour of his boss, the landlady Josepha Vogelhuber, who, however, has her eye on her regular guest, the lawyer Dr. Siedler. Siedler, in turn, is interested in Ottilie, who has just stayed at the "Weißes Rössl" with her father, the Berlin factory owner Giesecke. Sigismund Sülzheimer, the son of Giesecke's rival, has also arrived. He is to marry Ottilie to put an end to the competition between the two companies.
For decades, the "Weisse Rössl" with its world hits has been an absolute cult piece. But Benatzky's masterpiece is by no means a musical Heimatfilm with mooing cows and snow-covered Alpine peaks, as the film versions of the 50s and 60s would have us believe. Time and again it rekindles the interest of young audiences in the genre of operetta, which has often been declared dead. The "Rössl" is quite different and much more!
