John M Armleder is one of the most influential contemporary artists in Europe, and his unusual works are based on the formal repertoire of modernism -constructivism, op-art, pop, gestural abstract painting, as well as video and design. The artist mixes all art-historical references with humor and finds poetic and ironic comments on our contemporary reality and the status of art. Using a wide range of media, Armleder mixes high culture and everyday life, coincidence and planning, the profound and the banal, and combines them to create an ambivalent and unique experience.John Armleder has conceived two new installations for the Rotunda and the large hall at the Schirn, which he summarizes under the title CA.CA. One of the artist's basic principles is to actively engage with each new location and to work with the conditions present in each case. To do this, Armleder often uses set pieces from previous installations and mixes a wide variety of materials together.
