La Donna del Lago - The Lady of the Lake Gioacchino Rossini (1792 - 1868)Melodramma in 2 actsLibretto: Leone Andrea Tottola, based on the verse narrative "The Lady of the Lake" (1810) by Sir Walter Scott In the heyday of Romanticism, Sir Walter Scott's historical novels were the most widely read books. Max Emanuel Cencic, one of the finest countertenors of our time, has staged the opera himself and also takes on the melodramatic lover's part. In Cencic's opulent production, Elena, engrossed in a novel, dreams herself out of the armchair of her upper-middle-class salon into a gold-framed monumental painting full of nature, eroticism, lovesickness and emotional confusion. Alongside Cencic as Malcolm, young Russian mezzo star Lena Belkina takes on the demanding title role. Daniel Behle sings the complex King James V before his "Meistersinger"-David here on May 30. Grammy-nominated Echo Klassik award-winner George Petrou is on the podium. In Italian. With supertitles.
