For over three decades, Canadian artist Loreena McKennitt has explored the many aspects of Celtic music. Seemingly effortlessly, she combines instrumental as well as vocal perfection and emotion to create a sonic costume that enchants the listener. The passionate globetrotter presents Open Air in Summer 2019.
Loreena McKennitt will be joined on this concert tour by a five-piece band of select soloists. The focus will be on many songs from her extensive canon as well as her most recently released "Lost Souls" album. "Lost Souls is filled with an enriching spirit of Celtic folk classicism", recently wrote The Times of London. Her acclaimed performances are composed of music and narratives inspired by Loreena McKennitt's exotic tracing of Celtic history.
For example, songs are combined with mystical Irish poems by Yeats and Keats, as well as texts by classical writers such as Shakespeare and Tennyson. Her musical ensemble includes two of her longtime companions, guitarist Brian Hughes and cellist Caroline Lavelle, as well as Hugh Marsh on violin, Dudley Philips on double bass and Robert Brian on drums. Intimacy interwoven with personal, inspirational stories characterize Loreena McKennitt's concerts. Trademarks remain her crystal clear soprano voice and her versatility as an instrumentalist on harp, piano and bandonion.
