The couple regime is omnipresent: going through life in a relationship of two is still considered the ultimate. Yet competition and fear lurk alongside affection and trust in this particular form of togetherness. It can feel beautiful and terrible at the same time. It can be addictive and freeing. In "Couples are Hostile Islands", Janna Pinsker and Wicki Bernhardt try to get to grips with the ideological paths of desire between worldview and emotion. In the process, the object of desire is indeed an object: "Do you think I have a chance with her?" they ask the audience, squinting over at a vacuum cleaner. "Couples Are Hostile Islands" gives objects a life of their own, venturing into the waters of lovers as a great white shark.
