Vicente José Santiago was born into a "gypsy family"of traditional cave-dwelling "gitanos"from Murcia and accordingly had direct contact with flamenco in traditional family celebrations from an early age. As the first and only one of the family, his passion for flamenco brought him all the way to the academic study of flamenco guitar at the Conservatorio Superiór de Córdoba. Thus Vicente now combines traditionally experienced knowledge with academic study of music, enabling him to write original compositions of a particularly touching and virtuosic kind.
During his studies, he did a year abroad in Rotterdam at the Flamenco Department under the direction of the legendary old master Paco Peña.
This experience led him to return to Rotterdam a year later where he has now been considered the most sought-after guitarist on the great Dutch flamenco scene for four years already. He regularly collaborates with international artists and has composed music for choreographers such as Javier Latorre, among others, and passes on his knowledge of the flamenco tradition as a teacher.
In Rotterdam he has opened his own Tablao Flamenco "Los Canasteros" and invites artists from different countries once a month to present the traditional way of flamenco.
With this idea he now comes to Germany for the first time and presents on 25.5.2019 "Los Canasteros" at the internationales-theater in Frankfurt, together with Miki Maria Vos on dance, Erminia Fernandez Córdoba on vocals and Luqas Bonewitz on second guitar.
