The Yawpers don't afford the luxury of a bass player. The Denver, Colorado trio consists of Nate Cook (vocals, guitar), Jesse Parmet (slide guitar, backing vocals) and Alex Koshak (drums). The first time they played together in the practice room, it worked right away and felt so right that a bassist as a fourth band member was never considered.
Cook grew up in Texas, couldn't do it without country, only as a youngster punk rock was his "lifeblood," as the primus inter pares repeatedly points out in interviews. The Yawpers put the idea of infecting country with the visceral, dangerous nature of punk into practice. The Blasters, The Cramps, and the Gun Club were important inspirations for their "cowpunk." Other associations critics like to make are the Butthole Surfers, The Damned or MC5. The Yawpers pursue a very expansive vision of rock 'n' roll, one that draws on a wide variety of traditions, mixing in folk, punk, rockabilly, alternative country, garage rock, blues. "Human Questions" is the name of the fifth album by the US-Americans, less folk and twang, but sometimes more streamlined rock'n'roll, as one review put it. Human Questions" is intense and dynamic, for the Washington Times "a truly wild album".
