Tommie Harris & friends are held to a special standard. The lyrics call for a mature, expressive voice to give them meaning. A blues solo is good when the musician expresses deep emotion on his instrument. A solid rhythmic framework also characterizes a good blues band. Tommie Harris & Friends combine all of these into a stylistic blend of the first order.
Tommie Harris (drums, vocals), raised in Alabama, sang in a gospel choir as a teenager. Mentored by famed jazz musician Yusef Lateef from 1957, he came to Germany in the early seventies and found his home here. In 1987 he was inducted into the "Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame". He has played with many international stars.
