On the basis of a profound knowledge and, above all, feeling for roots music, the singer and guitarist has been developing her own personal sound since the release of her first EP in 2008. She probably has the blues in her blood thanks to her father Chris Whitley, who passed away much too early. With Daniel Lanois, Daryl Johnson and Brian Blade, she formed the also funk, reggae and Americana-inspired alternative supergroup Black Dub. Her vocals on their joint album were already being praised as particularly soulful. Now Whitley, who shuttles between Belgium and Brooklyn, is catching up on her fall dates.
